In our classroom, I believe that a student’s grade should reflect the student’s mastery of the concepts (called indicators or objectives) set forth by the State of Maryland. Therefore, the product grade will reflect the student’s level of proficiency on the indicators. This grade will comprise 70% of a student’s overall grade in the course. Product grades reflect assessments on indicators (objectives) that have been taught at school and practiced in class or at home. These grades give us a clear picture about what your child understands independently in relation to state standards.
Practicing the concepts through classwork and homework plays an extremely important role in your child’s learning process. Practice makes permanent! It also allows the students to think about their understanding of what they have learned in class. Through practice, students will be able to determine if they have understood the topic or if they need to re-visit it. These types of practice activities make up the process part of your child’s overall grade in the course. These grades will be worth 30% of the course grade.
